Dear all,
Association of Chinese Students and Scholars in Lubbock successfully held two
preliminary karaoke competitions on April 9th and Sept. 9th, respectively. Lots
of students and their spouses participated and some of them showed wonderful
singing talent. Here, we publish the final list for the Karaoke final.
The following list shows the candidates who will show up in the final
competition.

The final karaoke competition will hold on Sept. 30th
(Saturday) in the ballroom (first floor, in the Student Union Building)
from7:00p.m. to 10:00p.m. We require all the competitors send the final name of
song to xiaolu.hu@ttu.edu before Sept 22st (Friday)
5:00p.m. After that, we may lose you in the final list. Please make sure
you send your name, song and contact phone number
correctly by due, thank you.
Pay more attention to the final competition rules, there are
some changes, which may affect your final score and ranking. The panel of judges
of final competition will be seven persons. We will deduct the highest and
lowest then calculate the rest of five. The sum divided by five should be your
first part score (70%). The second part score (30%) will come from the total
support tickets you earn from the audience. Each competitor can recommend two
representatives from family members or friends to have the rights to vote on the
spot. We will distribute our special signs for the audiences who have the rights
to vote. Also, we will deliver another ballot to all audience in the entrance to
choose their “Favorite Singer in Lubbock”.
We require all competitors to participate the rehearsal
arranged in the ballroom of UC (Student Union) at 6:00 p.m. on Sept.28th
(Thursday). No show up in the rehearsal will probably and seriously hurt your
final performance in the final competition. All competitors must prepare the
words of the song you will sing. Please dress up in your personality at that
night. Finally, all ACSSL members say thank you for your contributions to the
Chinese community. Thank you for your participation in our karaoke competition!

说明如下：
** 本次比赛欢迎各类唱法的歌手参加比赛，形式自由，鼓励参赛选手自己找伴奏，伴舞以及创造各种舞台效果，并可以根据具体情况酌情加分。
** 参赛时提供歌词字幕，但看字幕会对台风部分的得分有影响，因此请尽量熟悉歌曲，不推荐看字幕。
** 本次比赛设3位评委，取平均分。
** 歌曲伴奏以自行准备为主，如有困难，请及早与组委会联系。
** 如有选手对该评分规则有建议，请尽早与组委会联系，详细说明你的想法，组委会可根据实际情况作适当调整。
** 本次卡拉OK比赛组委会保留比赛规则最终解释权。

Dear all,
In order to provide more entertainments during this hot summer, The Association
of Chinese Students and Scholars at Lubbock (ACSSL) plan to organize a badminton
contest. The first round of the game will be held at 2:00p.m.-6:00p.m. on July
8th the coming Saturday in the Recreation Center. The finals will be at
2:00p.m.-6:00p.m on July 15th (Saturday).
Anyone who is interested in participating the contest, welcome to directly email
to tiaotiaolu@hotmail.com. Our sign up for this contest will start on July 5th
and end at 6:00 p.m. on July 7th (Wednesday to Friday). The contest sequence of
each pair of competitors will come out by drawing lots. On the Friday evening,
we will inform all the competitors the result of our drawing lots.
Considering the contest length and students' summer schedule, this time we will
only set men single and women single. Badminton scoring rules are according to
every three hours Bureau system, and both men single and women single apply the
11-hour board.
ACSSL will provide badminton balls only. All competitors should bring other
stuffs by themselves.
We will award the first three winners in man single and woman single.
Additionally, we need more volunteers to play as the role of referee. If you
have interest in this, please also contact the above email address.

Palo Duro Canyon Hiking

Destination： Palo Duro Canyon, “Grand Canyon of Texas” (around 2 hours ride away
from Lubbock)
Fees： $8 per person (including transportation fee
& entrance fee)；$5 for children of 12 and under (only transportation fee)；$3
per person driving your own car (park admission fee).
