Activities
ACT members participate in the following activities each year:
Monthly Meetings
ACT members meet the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Agricultural Education and Communications Building.
Ag Fest
At the beginning of the academic year, students have the opportunity to attend Ag Fest and learn about organizations across the Texas Tech College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Back-To-School Bash
Just days after Ag Fest, students interested in organizations in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications can visit with organization officers and socialize with other students in the department.
Mass Communications Appreciation Event
At the end of the fall semester, ACT members are given the opportunity to express thanks to the staff and faculty of the Texas Tech College of Mass Communications, which work hand-in-hand with faculty and staff of the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications.
Arbor Day
Arbor Day is a campus beautification program pioneered by Texas Tech President Knapp in 1938. ACT members join together to beautify Texas Tech by planting flowers in the organization's designated area on campus.
Office Bombardment Day
Once a year, ACT members travel to various communications businesses and speak with industry professionals in an effort to strengthen networking and communications skills and to see how agricultural communications can be applied in a real-world setting.
ACT Professional Development Conference
The ACT Professional Development Conference is held once a year and builds members' professional skills in the agricultural communications field. ACT members attend workshop seminars and hear from industry professionals. They also partake in agribusiness tours. Through networking and friendship building, the conference allows ACT to grow and become a greater benefit to its members.
Agricultural Media Summit
The Ag Media Summit, a joint meeting of the American Agricultural Editors’ Association, the Livestock Publications Council and the American Business Media Agri-Council, is the largest meeting in the United States of agricultural communicators. Like many other events in which ACT members participate, it is a great opportunity for professional improvement and industry networking. Click here for more information regarding Ag Media Summit.
Departmental Banquet
The departmental banquet honors outstanding students in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications. Each year, ACT outgoing and incoming officer teams are recognized, and an outstanding ACT member and outstanding new ACT member are awarded.
