Aikido Club

F. A. Q.

Q.-I want to try your club, What I need to do?

A.- If you have access to the TTU Recreational Center. Either by being student/faculty or staff or be sponsored by one of these and pay the visitor fee to the RecCenter. Just come by room 116 located next to the south entrance at the training time.

Q.-Do I need to wear a Gi for training?

A.- It is preferable that you use a Gi because it is more resistant. However if you are just trying our club, you can  wear some loose pants and a shirt, try to avoid sleeveless shirts.

Q.-Do I need to have a special martial arts background?

A.- NO! It is not necessary that you have a special martial arts background.  If you have some martial arts background it could help you to pick up Aikido quicker.

Q.- I have saw you class and it look to advanced for me. Is there a specific time for beginners?

A.- NO! Beginners are welcome at anytime. Because there is a core set of principles in Aikido, a beginner can start training at anytime. These core principles appears in almost all the techniques.

You will be training with a partner. The level of the training depends on the level of the less experience partner. For example, I am a yellow belt and my partner is a black belt. When we train the level of our train is going to be like if both of us are yellow belts. You will be training with different partners during class, so everybody has opportunity to train at different levels.

Q.- I went to the Rec Center at the training time and there was not  Aikido class. What happen?

A.- There are a few specific times during the spring and fall semesters that there is an exception of who has the right to use the matt room in the Rec Center. We would try to post those dates in advanced and try to reallocate our meeting place for those specific dates.

During the summer, we try to keep the same schedule as long as it is possible. Sometimes class is cancel due to the fact the people is in family or business trips and there is not  enough people for practice.

Q.- Could my son/daughter train with the Aikido Club?

A.- Yes.! Even though our club does not have a specific class for children.
If your son/daughter is physically and mentally able to train with adults.
S/he can train with us.

It is our experience that if the child is to young s/he will lost interest in the class
because it may be boring for her/him without other partners of the same age.
