Welcome to
AlcoholEdu® for College
Dear New Member of the Red Raider Family,
You have already made many important decisions regarding your education. Here at Texas Tech you will be making many more. Your ability to learn and strive for honor is enhanced when you are a member of a safe and healthy community. As part of our comprehensive alcohol harm prevention program, Texas Tech expects each new first year freshman student, who graduated from High School in May 2007, to complete AlcoholEdu for College - an online, non-opinionated alcohol prevention program.
This course uses research-based approaches to educate students about alcohol and its effects. Whether you drink or not, AlcoholEdu for College will help you make well-informed decisions about alcohol and better manage drinking behavior that may occur around you.
The course has two sections, both of which must be completed to fulfill this expectation:
- The first part of the course takes about 2.5 hours to complete and we recommend that you take it in multiple sittings. This section ends with an exam and survey. You must earn a grade of 70% or higher to pass the course. The course will be available starting July 30, 2007. The deadline for finishing this section of the course is August 17, 2007. You must meet this deadline in order to be entered to win* an iPod Nano**or a book loan to Barnes and Noble.
- After you have been on campus for a few weeks, you will receive an email asking you to complete the second section of the course. This section will take about 15 minutes. You must complete this section by October 19, 2007 to finish the requirement and remain eligible to win an iPod Nano** or a book loan to Barnes and Noble.
All responses are confidential; Texas Tech University staff will never see individual students' answers. You can feel confident that providing truthful answers - no matter what they are - will not put you at any risk for repercussions.
To take AlcoholEdu for College, you will need a computer with Internet access and audio capabilities. If you do not have ready access to a computer, you may try using a computer at a local library, copy center or community center.
Again, welcome to Texas Tech. We look forward to seeing you on campus this fall.
Sincerely,
