Founded on May 15, 1851 at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia, Alpha Delta Pi holds the distinction of being the first secret society in the world for college women.  As the mother of today’s sorority system, it is only fitting that our founding took place at the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women.  The qualifications for membership have remained unchanged through the years; scholarship, high principles of behavior, and true friendships. 

Violets
The woodland violet, which grows wild, is the official flower.  Because it is unavailable for purchase, African violets are often used to symbolize the woodland violet.

Lion
As a symbol of beauty and strength, the lion services as Alpha Delta Pi’s mascot. 
The lion represents the strength of mind and the strength of character of each sister in Alpha Delta Pi.  Our mascot is nicknamed “Alphie.”

Colors
The official colors of Alpha Delta Pi are Azure Blue and While.  Azure Blue is symbolic of friendship, and the basic spirit upon which Alpha Delta Pi is founded. 
White is symbolizes sincerity and truth.

Diamond Badge
The diamond badge represents purity, and the four points
represent the symmetry of a balanced life.

            Alpha is Greek for the Beginning, and Wesleyan College for Women is where it all began for Alpha Delta Pi in 1851.  Not only did ADPi become forerunner for the sorority system, but she also played an important role in the advancement of education for the American female.  We are proud to be the oldest secret society for women and take pride in being the “First and Finest.”

            Delta means change in geometry, and ADPi definitely reflects change.  As the oldest group, we have managed to change with the times to continue helping women reach their full potential both scholastically and socially.

            Pi in geometry, represents infinity.  Just as Alpha Delta Pi has been around since 1851, we anticipate continuing strong throughout time.  The continuation of the basic principles and the long-lasting friendships demonstrate the unending sisterhood of Alpha Delta Pi.
