What is Archives?

You may wonder what Archives is, how to use it, or maybe you never even knew AAS had a National Archives.  The fact is, Archives has been around ever since the Arnold Air Society was created, but it has never been fully utilized, until now.  Major changes are taking place to ensure Archives serves it's purpose effectively and efficiently.

Where?

The Arnold Air Society National Archives are located at Texas Tech University, Lewis C. Ellis Jr. Squadron.  The National Silver Wings Archives are also located here.  This is a National-Level Unit and it permanently resides at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX.

What is it for?

The National Archives HQ is responsible for assembling, organizing, and storing the history and information of Arnold Air Society and it's squadrons.

What are our future plans?

Since 1950, physical archives have been stored at Texas Tech University using filing cabinets and so on.  We plan on making an efficient way to send archives via the internet and e-mail so that they may be stored on our computer system limited at 5 gigabytes of memory.  This plan will be introduced at NASACON 2003 and will make it easier for us to relay information and pictures back to pertaining squadrons in the years to come.  Priceless archives such as letters signed by Hap Arnold himself will eventually be put on our website.  Making an actual database on the internet of our entire archived collection is simply unrealistic.  Please feel free to contact us about other plans to be implemented.

How do we use it?

Archives stores squadron charters, squadron officer rosters, NATCON minutes, ARCON minutes, pictures, squadron fundraiser events, squadron history information, national interim reports, and other information.  There are also many National trophies and plaques stored there, although we no longer accept them for storage.
