Message from the Delta Sigma Phi President

Est. 1899

Brother,

As you and your chapter brothers embark upon a new academic year, I wanted to write you regarding what promises to be a season of unlimited potential for your chapter and our Fraternity, and the responsibilities that each of us share as members of Delta Sigma Phi.

At many campuses across the country, students are returning from busy summers spent working, interning, or traveling abroad.  The excitement that comes from reconnecting with friends and fraternity brothers is a highlight of this time, and it is one I remember well.  As the days progress, chapter recruitment and new member education activities will begin—these are days where long hours and hard work are synonymous with success.

...

Last week, the new Grand Council met in Indianapolis for their first face-to-face meeting since the National Convention in July.  We have no intention of wasting time.  We will chart a bold course that will clearly differentiate Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity from our competitors on Greek Row.  Our Fraternity stands for, and expects, excellence in everything we do.  We seek to recruit and build men who want nothing less and expect the same from their peers.  This fraternity will not stand for mediocrity; neither should you or your chapter.  The caliber and quantity of men recruited into your chapter this fall must also rise above mediocrity.

Since 1899, Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity has been building better men.  Now more than ever, our mission is relevant and recognizable.  We are counting on you to ensure that it is also respected and known campus-wide as America’s premier fraternity of men.  Anything less is unacceptable.  ...

I am pleased to report, following our meeting, that your Grand Council and Undergraduate Advisory Committee are well underway with four strategic initiatives for the coming years.  We will tackle tough issues in leadership development, communication, recruitment and strategic planning.  ...

I have no doubt you are up to the tasks, in fact 20 years ago when I had your responsibilities, I relished the idea of leading.  I took pride knowing that my brothers were following, and took even more pride knowing that I could handle the awesome responsibilities of running a chapter.  Now is your time!  Go for it!

...The Preamble to our Fraternity’s Constitution states, “…each Brother of the Fraternity shall exemplify those principles, by conduct as well as enforcement in order that the Fraternity may grow and prosper with honor to itself…”  This fall, the growth and prosperity of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity is in your hands.  Raise the bar, recruit the best men, and use the guiding principles of our organization to chart the course to build better men!

“…and that the world may ever be convinced of the sincerity of our purpose.”

YITBOS,

Michael Hoffman
President
