Cattle. Steers (average body weight 450-500 lbs) begin grazing rye and dormant stockpiled old world bluestem in the Alternative System in December or January of each year depending on forage availability. Steers begin grazing on the stockpiled WW-B.Dahl OWB and move to the rye as spring growth permits. Following graze-out of rye cattle move to the wheat pasture and by mid-May return to the OWB where they stay until mid to late July.
