The Texas Tech Chapter of Gamma Beta Phi is a non-profit, scholastic education-service organization. We are gearing up for our annual Lubbock Beautification Project titled Project GRIP: Gamma Beta Phi, Ready to Improve and Plant. This is the 6th annual project GRIP and it will be held at Parkway Elementary. The projected date is April 19th, 2008.

This year we plan to focus more on the learning center. We will create several areas of different plants and flowers for learning about insects and small animals, a pond for aquatic life lessons, and other science instruments such as thermometers, telescopes, and prisms. There will also be arches and benches for reading and learning outside. The children have their own projects to contribute, such as making bird feeders and wind chimes. The schedule of events usually follows as so:

9:00 am - 11:00 am Project
11:00 am - 12:00 pm Lunch
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm Project
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Clean-up

GRIP brings together students, organizations, and the Lubbock community. More importantly, Gamma Beta Phi works closely with the school to ensure the success of the project. The PTA and teachers usually help in making decisions about the overall project. Then, all kids, parents, teachers, and administration are encouraged to lend a helping hand the day up to and the day ofthe project. Any contributions, whether it is ideas, monetary, the donation of or lending ofsupplies, or time is extremely appreciated and much needed. The estimated cost of this year's project is $5,000. Gamma Beta Phi does fundraise, but also relies on contributions and sponsors to fund the project.
