Important Reminders!
Overview
Eleven National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities will participate
in Fall Formal Recruitment. Recruitment is an ongoing process of mutual
selection during which you and the sorority choose each other. During
Recruitment, you will have the opportunity to visit each of the sororities.
As Recruitment progresses, the number of events each day decreases, and
the amount of spent time in each event increases.
Recruitment Kick-Off: Saturday, August 16th
This will be an informational session for everyone registered for Fall
Formal Recruitment. Parents are also welcome to attend! The Kick-Off will
be held at 5:00 p.m. in the United Spirit Arena. You will receive information concerning
Recruitment, and will meet your Recruitment Counselors and Recruitment
Group. This is NOT a recruiting day-however, attendance is absolutely imperative!
Please plan on attending, and feel free to wear comfortable clothes, as
most of you will be moving in to your residence halls.
Period One: Sunday, August 17th and Monday, August 18th
During the first two days of Recruitment, you will attend events at each
of the 11 sororities. These events are each 30 minutes in length, and
you will receive an informational sheet on each of the sororities before
you enter their lodge. These events will give you the opportunity to meet
several women from each chapter and learn about the sororities. This is
the time to ask questions about the information you have been provided
concerning each of the sororities.
Attire: Your favorite Texas Tech University t-shirt on the 17th and your Greek Life t-shirt on the 18th. Greek Life t-shirts will be distributed at the Recruitment Kick-Off. Casual slacks, Capri pants, walking shorts or jeans are appropriate. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Casual slacks, Capri pants, walking shorts or jeans are appropriate. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
Period Two: Tuesday, August 19th
Philanthropy Day
During Period 2, individuals will have the opportunity to attend a maximum
of 8 events. Each event will be 45 minutes in length, and will focus on
the sorority's national philanthropy and local philanthropy and community
service projects. Some sororities will put on a short skit to tell you
about their philanthropic activities and some sororities will have you participate in a craft that supports their philanthropy.
Attire: Casual sundress, Capri pants, or skirt and top.
Period Three: Wednesday, August 20th
During Period 3, individuals will have the opportunity to attend a maximum
of 5 events. Each event will be one hour in length, allowing the time
for more in-depth conversation at each lodge. Some of the sororities will
put on a short skit to teach you more about their organization. This is
a time when it is important to ask any questions you might have about
each particular sorority, and think about what their organization has
to offer. You need to begin to think about where you feel comfortable.
Attire: Church attire or dressy skirt and top.
Period Four: Thursday, August 21st
Preference Night
During Preference Night, individuals will have the opportunity to attend
a maximum of 2 events. Each event will be one and a half hours in length,
and this is a special night for you and the sorority members. Preference
night is serious in nature, and is a time where members will explain to
you the values of their organization. You should be thinking about how
the members live the values of their organization, and if you can see
yourself as a part of their sisterhood. This is the time to consider which
sorority best meets your needs and where you will be the happiest. This
is the last night for you to ask whatever is on your mind, as this is
the night that you must make your final decision.
Immediately after your last Preference event, you will complete a Preference
card. This is when you will be asked to make a final decision. This is
a decision which must be made on your own. Only you know what is best
for you, so do not let anyone else influence your decision.
Attire: After-five or cocktail dress. Beading is not
necessary. The dress does not have to be black.
Bid Day: Friday, August 22nd
This is the day you will receive your bid (invitation) to join the sorority you were matched with through the mutual selection process. Events will begin at the United Spirit Arena and then you will travel on the provided Citi Bus to your sorority's welcoming event.
Attire: Casual shorts, slacks, capris, skirts, etc are recommended. You will be given a t-shirt to wear from the sorority once you arrive at the sorority's welcoming event.
