Although the Panhellenic Association does not require a specific GPA
to participate in Recruitment, the individual chapters establish their
own requirements. The chapters strongly adhere to these grade requirements.
Both high school and college grade requirements start at approximately
3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Sororities were founded primarily upon principles of academic excellence,
and this is a primary consideration in membership selection.
Recruitment Guidelines
To participate in Recruitment, the Potential New Member must be enrolled
as a full time undergraduate students at Texas Tech University for the fall of 2008.
To participate in Recruitment, you must register with the Texas Tech
Panhellenic by August 13, 2008.
When registering for Formal Recruitment, you will pay a nonrefundable
fee of $80.00 if your register by July 1,
2008. The fee will increase to $90.00 if you apply through July 15, 2008. The fee then increases to $105.00 through August 1, 2008, and then $130.00 through August 13, 2008.
The registration fee will cover transportation all week and brunch for
three days.
Texas Tech does not require Potential New Members to register with
an Alumnae Panhellenic; however, it is recommended if you would like
to receive letters of reference.
All Potential New Members must arrive on August 16, 2008 to move into
the residence halls in order to participate in Recruitment.
Except for illness or emergency, PNMs must participate in all recruitment events. If a PNM fails to do so, they will be released from Recruitment. If a PNM has an excused conflict with the Recruitment schedule, Panhellenic
must be notified in writing before Recruitment begins. If a PNM has
an unexcused absence from a Recruitment event, she will be released
from Recruitment.
Late registration diminishes the possibility of me receiving invitations from the sororities.
A potential new member will not accept favors or gifts from any sororities
or individual chapter members or alumnae. If such an incident occurs,
it must be reported to a Recruitment Counselor or the Panhellenic Recruitment
Director.
A potential new member shall not give a promise - verbal or written
- to join any sorority before formal bids are issued through Panhellenic.
Silence for potential new members begins on Saturday, August 16, 2008.
Silence will last through Bid Day. During this time, no Potential New
Member shall have direct, phone, or written contact with any sorority
members, alumnae, or fraternity men. This is to ensure that each potential
new member has an objective view when making her decision to choose
a sorority. It also provides the potential new member the opportunity
to evaluate the sororities with no outside influences, which may deter
her from making the right decision for her. Parents of the potential
new member may be contacted at all times.
If a PNM needs a special accommodation to fully participate or needs more information, please contact the Panhellenic Executive Council at gogreekttu@aol.com or 806-742-2403 or contact the Center for Campus Life at 806.742.5433. Please allow sufficient time to arrange the accommodation.
All letters of recommendation must be sent directly to the chapter lodges. The Texas Tech Panhellenic cannot help secure recommendations or check to see if a chapter has received a recommendation letter. For more information regarding letters of recommendation and how to obtain them, please see the "For Alumnae" page of the www.gogreek.ttu.edu website.
The online registration form, pictures, and transcripts that are mailed to the Panhellenic Council will be shared with each of the sororities participating in Recruitment.
