Current Students
Hey There Goin' Band!!
We have great music this year. I can't wait to see you in August. For all of you that are new members, there are amazing experiences awaiting you and we look forward to your arrival on campus.
AUDITIONS
Audition music is now available. To access it, do the following:
- Click to go to the Login page.
- Enter the username and password you received in your letter.
- Click on "downloads".
- Select audition music for marching band.
- Select your instrument. This should open a PDF file that is ready to print.
- For concert bands audition music, follow same procedure as above.
If you have complications, call the band office at 806-742-2272 and we can walk you through the process or mail you a "hard copy" of the music.
It is important to note that auditions for Goin' Band this year will have even more weight than they have had in the past. I want to make sure that everyone understands that you must be ready for your auditions! This includes upperclassmen.
Also, please prepare the concert F,Bb, Eb, and Ab scales and a chromatic scale. The scales can be in any format and as many octaves as you can perform well. Please perform scales ascending and descending, but you choose the tempo and note values. Any of you auditioning for Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band or Concert Band will also find your audition music on the Goin Band website. Follow the above steps and on number 5 select "concert auditions".
SPECIAL EVENTS
Anytime from December 22nd through January 4th, the Goin' Band could be traveling to a Bowl game. Keep in mind the possibility of a 3 or 4 day trip including travel for the early Bowls. For later bowls, after the 28th of December, or if we are in a BCS Bowl, we would be looking at a 4-7 day trip. Though some possibilities seem remote, they are not completely off the radar on any year. It is critical that you do not commit to band if you are unable to attend the Bowl. Explain this to your family very clearly. We must have full attendance.
Special note: We will have a game this year during the Thanksgiving Holidays. This game is mandatory and is subject to the Attendance Policy. We will have our regular practice on Tuesday before Thanksgiving and this is a mandatory rehearsal. Game time on Saturday has not been set. The mandatory game-day rehearsal could occur as early as 9 p.m. on Friday evening. This should help some of you who will fly into Lubbock that day. Any conflicts with this schedule must be brought to Mr. Anderson's attention immediately.
Official Band Photo: This year we will be having a very special panoramic photo taken at the entrance to the press box. On Saturday, August 23rd, we will have that photo taken and you will have the opportunity to purchase this photo that day. Please be ready to make your purchase at that time. This is going to be a special football season, and with the launch of the new uniforms, you will want to have this photograph for years to come. The cost of the photo will be $30.00. You will receive one large panoramic group photo and 2 smaller ones. Payment can be made by cash, check, or credit card to the Goldbeck company.
THINGS YOU NEED
- Tennis shoes for all band-lot rehearsals. Athletic shoes with rolled toes are the best option.
- Sunscreen and possibly a cap for our marching rehearsals.
- Personal water bottle. While we provide water and Powerade for rehearsals, water breaks are a little crazy when there are over 400 people. We march on asphalt, so it gets hot.
- Wind players–you must provide your own flip folder for band. It needs several transparency sleeves. You can purchase this at any of your local music stores. Many players opt for 2 flip folders–one for stands and one for performance music as there will be 40-45 pages of music in the folder at any time. Since most of our music is going to be online, I suggest that you stuff your flip folder before you arrive on campus. Check the website periodically in August as music will be added throughout the first 2 weeks before summer band starts. As usual, if you have any questions call Debbie Holt at 806-742-2272 or email her at debbie.holt@ttu.edu.
Go Tech... and all that,
Mr. Anderson
