High Riders is an ongoing tradition at Texas Tech University.  The organization, and its members, take great pride in the service that they provide the students, alumni, and women's athletes at Texas Tech.

As stated in the Constitution of High Riders, "High Riders shall be dedicated to the principles of service and leadership to the University and the student body" in the "promotion of spirit at Texas Tech University."  Further, "The purpose of High Riders shall be to further the spirit of women's athletic programs, and to provide an organization where students can actively participate in the support of athletic programs and the University."

The High Riders support all women's athletes at Texas Tech.  Various tasks and projects are completed throughout the Fall and Spring semesters in support of these female athletes.

High Riders attends all home games for the Texas Tech women's basketball team, volleyball team, softball team, and soccer team.  Home tennis matches are also attended.  In the past High Riders has helped work track meets that Texas Tech has hosted.

In addition to attending the games, High Riders supports the athletes in several other ways.  Each sport usually gets their lockerroom decorated at least a couple of times each season, usually for the "big" or important games.

Each High Rider also gets what is called a Secret Spirit for each team.  This Secret Spirit is and athlete, coach, or trainer that the High Rider will periodically write notes to throughout the season.  At the end of the season, the "secret" is revealed and the High Rider meets their player, coach, or trainer.

High Riders also is very honored to be, along with the Saddle Tramps, the only people allowed in the bell tower of the Administration Building.  After each home victory, the victory bells are rung.

Another great tradition that High Riders gets to take part in is the Carol of Lights each December.  More information can be read about this in our TRADITIONS section.

Finally, each High Rider gets a Big Sis during their pledgeship.  This Big Sis acts as a mentor for the new member during their early time in the organization, and usually as a friend long after the new member has been initiated.
