Judaism in Lubbock Texas

Lubbock Texas boasts one of the premiere Jewish communities in the state of Texas. Much of our commerce revolves around Texas Tech University, including the Texas Tech Law School, and the Health Sciences Center (one of several Texas Tech medical schools located throughout Texas).

Religious Congregations

In addition to our Hillel organization, Lubbock also has a very beautiful Synagogue, Temple Shaareth Israel, (Reformed), led by Rabb i Hollander. The synagogue has a young vibrant congregation and holds Shabbat services every Friday evening, as well as special services on Purim, Sukkoth, and High Holidays. For many years, Shaareth Israel has also worked in cooperation with Hillel to put together a community Passover Seder for students and congregants. For information, call (806) 794-7517. Jewish Culture and Kosher Foods in Lubbock

Purchasing Kosher food within Lubbock can be a challenge. However, the local supermarket chain United Supermarkets is very receptive of Jewish needs, so long as they are made aware. If need be, please be sure to order kosher foods from them early so that they may be ready in time for the holidays. Unfortunately, obtaining Kosher meats in Lubbock can be much more challenging, unless you have them shipped from Dallas or Albuquerque N.M. (The two closest major cities to Lubbock). However, Hebrew National Hot Dogs are readily available at both United Supermarkets and Wal-Mart Supercenters.

Dinning Jewish style in Lubbock is somewhat easier. We have two major east coast styled delicatessens in Lubbock. They are:
