Thanks for participating in one of Tech's most important annual events. These activities get our name out to students and the university.
April 18 - Texas Regional HFES Conference starts at 8:00AM
Great job everyone! The conference planning and student dinner were quite successful. Along with our co-hosting, we contributed six posters and two presentations. Congratulations to Dr. Jones for receiving the Best Paper Award, and to Allyson Hall for receiving the Best Student Paper Award!
April 17 - Tour Perceptive Sciences, AT&T, Applied Materials, and Dell
The tours were great. Although Dell did cancel because of internal issues. We learned a great deal about our profession as it was practiced in companies of varying size and scope.

The Ergo Lab in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Texas Tech is awesome! Thanks to everyone for showing up to learn first hand about this state-of-the-art ergonomics research.
March 25 - 6:00PM in the Playa Room at the Student Union Building
A tour of the Ergo Lab was planned. Last minute details concerning our upcoming trip to Austin were discussed, and Arbor Day activities were confirmed.
March 22 - Dan Law Baseball Field cleanup activity at 1:00PM
Thanks everyone for showing up to support your chapter! This was a very good experience where we had the opportunity to work together and raise funds.
March 6 - Dr. Thurmon Lockhart of Virginia Tech, talk at 3:30PM in the Department of Industrial Engineering, Room 103
Dr. Lockhart is a great speaker. He talked to us about his current research in the area of the biomechanics of slips and falls.
February 29 - Deadline for submissions to the Texas Regional HFES Conference in Austin
Thanks to everyone for submitting! I know that many of you did not have a chance to recover from submissions to the national conference.
February 27 - Social/dinner with Dr. Rob Gray at Orlando's Italian Restaurant at 6:00PM
It was a great experience talking about our profession with one of the most successful up-and-coming academic contributors to our field.

* Unless you have paid your annual dues last fall, please bring $10.00 to our first meeting on January 22nd, at 6:00PM. I will bring student chapter T-shirts for all who have paid dues.
* Please mark your callendars for April 25th, from 11AM to 3PM. On this day, we will be planting flowers on campus, in accordance with Arbor Day. There will be plenty of free food and free Arbor Day T-shirts on Memorial Circle.

Saturday, April 29, 2006 - HFES Arbor Day Picnic
As per last year, we will be having an Arbor Day picnic. This year it will take place at Carlisle Park (26th and X) at 12:30. Come dressed for sand volleyball and a possible game of American football!
Friday, April 28, 2006 - TTU Arbor Day Celebration
We helped out TTU by participating in their Arbor Day Celebration. We enjoyed some hot dogs, lemonade and live music. Then we went to our assigned spot and planted a plethora of flowers. Thanks to all who showed up! Check out the pics here!
No NASA tour
We will not be able to visit NASA this semester. A trip to NASA will be planned in the fall.
April 19, 2006 - Last Meeting and 2006 - 2007 Officer Elections
The last meeting of the semester was held April 19th at 50th Street Caboose. General items were discusses, but due to poor turnout, we were unable to hold officer elections. Timothy Ballew will serve as interim President until elections can be held in the Fall.
March 27, 2006 - Jere Hart Presentation (6:00 p.m., Psychology 201B)
Jere Hart, a traffic engineer for the Lubbock Department of Transportation spoke with HF and IE graduate students. It was an interesting presentation and we learned a lot about traffic signals, intersections and how they work! Two of his previous presentations can be found here and here.
March 3, 2006 - Baseball Clean-up
Again HFES showed their willingness to help with on-campus activities by picking up trash in the stands after a Texas Tech baseball game. This extra money will come in handy for our possible NASA trip!
February 11, 2006 - Wine Tasting Social
A large turnout made this social activity one of the best in our history. We toured and tasted at two local wineries and had a great time doing it. I think we are all in agreement that this should become an annual event. With four wineries in town, I think that the 2nd annual HFES Wine Tasting Social will be even bigger! Thanks to Matt for driving (he doesn't like wine). Some wonderful pictures can be found here!
October 22, 2005 - TTU - UT Football Social
An HFES member hosted a barbeque at his house for the UT - TTU Football game. Turnout was great, and despite a poor performance by Tech, everyone enjoyed themselves. For a few pics, click here.
May 3, 2005 - Baseball Clean-up
HFES earned some extra money by picking up trash in the stands after a Texas Tech baseball game.
May 4-7, 2005 - Houston Conference
The Houston HFES Chapter hosted a conference on May 7th that we sent sending two members (Anand and Arathi) to attend.
April 29 - 30, 2005 - HFES Arbor Day Volunteer Work and Cook-out
HFES helped beautify the Tech campus for Arbor Day by planting ground cover. Our plot was near the library. In celebration of a job well done, HFES met the next day at Heritage Apartments for an afternoon of volleyball, football and food. Check out pictures from both days here!
April 27, 2005 - 50th Street Caboose Business Meeting
For the final business meeting of the 2004-2005 school year, HFES met at 50th Street Caboose. We discussed details of upcoming events and elected a new group of officers for the 2005-2006 school year.
April 22, 2005 - Distance Education Presentation
Human factors professionals from Dallas area businesses gave presentations discussing their jobs. Paul Schwab from Texas Instruments and Vicki Missar from eVolve discussed case studies, certification in human factors and ergonomics, and other aspects of the field. The presenters used a Texas A&M facility in Dallas to videoconference with our organization in the Engineering Center.
April 11, 2005 - General Meeting
The chapter discussed upcoming events and the possibility of a trip to Houston. Those who were present decided on a cook-out for this semester's social event.
March 31-April 2, 2005 - South Texas Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics
HFES traveled to the South Texas Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in San Antonio. Members enjoyed presentations during the day and headed to the River Walk in the evening. See the pictures here.
February 11, 2005 - Human Factors editor Nancy Cooke
Dr. Frank Durso from the Psychology Department arranged to bring in Nancy Cooke, new editor of Human Factors. HFES provided refreshments for the presentation, entitled Emergent Team Cognition... or, What Was Wrong with the US Olympic Basketball Team?
February 2, 2005 - General Meeting
Chapter members discussed plans for the upcoming paper conference trip as well as fundraisers, community service, and social events for the remainder of the semester.
December 4, 2004 - South Plains Food Bank
HFES members joined others in the community in helping out at the South Plains Food Bank. We helped package foods such as pears, sugar, and salt into smaller quantities to be distributed to needy families in the Lubbock area.
December 1, 2004 - General Meeting at 50th Street Caboose
We met in a party room at 50th Street Caboose. After distributing t-shirts, we discussed developments in plans for a plant trip and choices for an alumni speaker in the spring. Maps were passed out for the South Plains Food Bank service project, and we discussed reference materials that could enhance the human factors collections in IE and Psychology. After enjoying our appetizers we adjourned to the game room. A few pics are available here.
November 21, 2004 - Dollar Bowling Night
A group of HFES members hit the lanes for a night of bowling. Although there was some stiff competition between members, we had a great time! Check out some pictures of the event.
November 2, 2004- Pizza and Dessert Sale
HFES sold baked goods and pizza by the slice from 12-1 pm in the IE building. Funds will go towards future activities such as plant trips.
October 27, 2004 - General Meeting
HFES met in the psychology building to discuss upcoming events such as community service, fundraising, social activities, and t-shirts.
September 15, 2004 - General Meeting
HFES met to make plans for the upcoming semester. A new secretary was elected, and the group brainstormed about possible plant trips, speakers, and other activities.

April 14, 2004 - "Robust Orthotic Impedance for Speed-Accuracy
Trade-off",General Meeting
Sherry Thaxton, James Thaxton, and Elissa Luke shared a presentation with the group concerning their project for NASA's Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunity Program. The team performed a Fitt's Law experiment, analyzing the effects of added elbow impedance on the speed-accuracy trade-off during a tapping task. Experiment details can be found on their project website. During July of 2003, the team ran the experiment in reduced gravity aboard the KC-135 "Vomit Comet."
After the presentation, the chapter discussed a possible plant trip to Dallas and elected officers for the 2004-2005 school year.
November 24, 2003 - "Human Factors Engineering for AT&T eBusiness"
Dr. Esin Kiris of AT&T Labs graduated from Texas Tech with her PhD and MS in Industrial Engineering and is currently employed by AT&T Labs' eSales and eService Division. The presentation described the human factors engineering practices and deliverables for AT&T eBusiness discussed the importance of applied human factors engineering research in this area. In addition , an example of human factors research study of an Electronic Payment application was presented, including its goal, objectives, methodology, results, and impacts.
