Frequently Asked Questions

What is Judo?
Judo is a versatile martial art, an Olympic sport, and a discipline. Founded by Dr. Jigoro Kano in 1882, Judo (translated the Gentle Way) is known for its emphasis on nage-waza (throwing techniques) and ne-waza (ground techniques). It was founded to be able to redirect force with Maximum Efficiency and Minimum Effort. Many enjoy the exercise Judo offers its students, some appreciate the ability to defend ones self, and others strive for competition.

What do I wear to practice if I have never done Judo?
For beginners, athletic clothes such as an old t-shirt and shorts is fine. However, we do require that you have your own Judogi due to the nature of the sport and competitions.

Are there any dues?
We require that you have your own Judogi (gi) and a membership with USA Judo, registered under Tech Judo Club.
Judogi prices will vary between single or double weaves and brand. Before ordering, ask us about our club discounts.
Also, please ask us any questions about the membership with USA Judo.

Why do we have to bring our ID to practice?
Our supervisors need a photo ID (ie. Tech ID) to participate in practice. A photocopy of your ID also works and we will keep it on record.
