Welcome to Mu Epsilon Kappa!
What do we do?
Watch anime! That's all we do, really. Wednesdays 7-10 and Saturdays 6-10, we watch anime. I'm also taking suggestions for other activities like a video game Saturday or DnD group. Just send me an e-mail and we'll talk!
Where do you watch anime?
The Student Union Building, usually. Unfortunately, due to university rules, we can't book more than three meetings at a time, so keep your eyes on the emails or the website.
How do you decide what to watch?
The first two meetings of the semester are dedicated to showcasing the new anime for the semester. We encourage everyone to bring in shows that fit the guidelines! We watch the first episode of each series and then vote on what to watch for the rest of the semester! We do our best to finish off every series, within reason, so you won't be left hanging.
What are the guidelines for the shows to bring in?
If a show is running in Japan and it is being fansubbed, bring the fansubs in. If a show has been licensed in America, but has not been released on DVD and you have fansubs, bring in the fansubs. If the show has been licensed in America and is out on DVD, bring the DVD. Apart from that, make sure there's no blatant sex. Violence and cursing are okay, but sex scenes aren't. If it can't be shown on FX, it can't be shown in anime club. Also, if a show is on American TV and everyone has seen it (Naruto, Bleach, Cowboy Bebop), refrain from bringing it in. We want to showcase stuff not everyone has seen.
What if I have a short series or a movie?
Great! On Saturdays, for the last hour, we usually have happy hour. This means you can bring in your short series or movie and we'll watch it. The happy hour schedule will be determined once all the anime has been voted in and a schedule can be made up.
What language do we watch anime in?
Traditionally, we've only watched shows in Japanese with English subtitles, however we're trying out two shows in English this semester--Nerima Daikon Brothers and xxxHolic.
What do I have to do to join?
Nothing. Not a thing. All you have to do is show up. We don't take attendance, this isn't a class. No dues, no fees, no nothin'. Just a bunch of people who have a mutual interest hanging out and enjoying themselves.
Remember:
All series brought to MEK that are licensed in America must be on their original DVDs.
