** 2003-2004 Composition Project **

  CALL FOR NEW CHAMBER WORK PROPOSALS

   

The National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors encourages composition of new wind and percussion works with educational and recital value through its biennial commissioning project.  For its 2003-2004 competition, NACWPI invites composers to submit proposals for new works.  The winning work will be premiered at the In-Service Conference of the Music Educators National Conference in Minneapolis, MN, April 14-17, 2004, and published by Southern Music Company of San Antonio, Texas.

Project Proposal Guidelines

 

DEADLINE:                    Postmark no later than January 15, 2003


AGE LIMIT:
                    None.


INSTRUMENTATION: 
Mixed ensemble of brass and woodwinds with optional
                                           percussion for one player:  flute, oboe, B-flat clarinet,
                                           bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium,
                                           tuba, percussion.  Three (3) to eleven (11) performers.


DURATION:                   
Ten (10) to fifteen (15) minutes.


RESTRICTIONS:            Works must be new, original, and unpublished, with no
                                            previous performances or awards.

AWARD:                           Winner will receive:  
                                            1) a grant of $1,500
                                            2) a premiere of the new work at the 2004 in-service
                                                 conference of MENC
                                            3)  a contract for publication of the winning work with
                                                 Southern Music Company.

   
APPLICATION:                 

1. One-page description of  instrumentation, concept, duration, and difficulty level of proposed work to be composed after commission is awarded.

2. List of previous compositions for wind and/or percussion instruments, if any.

3. One score with CD or cassette tape recording of composer’s most representative work.

4. Short biographical sketch, including address and telephone number, and additional supporting materials at the composer’s discretion.

5. Self-addressed stamped postcard to confirm receipt of materials.

6. Self-addressed stamped envelope for return of materials.

 
Composition Project will be announced on or before April 1, 2003, after which the winner will receive a contract for the commission.  The judgment of the National Association of Wind and Percussion Instructors is final, and the organization reserves the right not to name a winner.
