The Goals of the PGSA
|
The PGSA has four fundamental goals: 1. Our primary goal is to aid current graduate students in the philosophy department. We do this in a variety of ways. We handling graduate student concerns, we provide funding for graduate specific departmental needs, and provide a voice for the graduate students in departmental decisions. 2. PGSA also works to aids graduate students in there studies and publishing attempts. We provide funding to graduate students to attend conferences to present papers, host talks, and chair discussions. We also provide funding for graduate students to attend conferences at which they are not presenting. We place a high value on getting Tech's Philosophy graduate students active in current philosophical discussions and arenas. 3. PGSA also works to recruit new students to the department. We aid the department in approaching prospective students and provide prospective students with information about graduate studies in philosophy at Texas Tech University. 4. PGSA also aids incoming students in their transition to life in Lubbock and into their new department. We feel that it is important that there be a graduate student infrastructure for incoming students to fit into to ease their transition, create cohesion between graduate students, and create an atmosphere where graduate students can flourish in their studies. |
