1. Tau Pi Alumnus is Olympic Figure Skating Champion
Two-time World Bronze Medalist, member of the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team and three-time United States National figure skating champion Michael Weiss, alumnus of Tau Pi Chapter at Prince George's Community College, is one of the few American men who can successfully land a quadruple jump in competition, a move judged by USA Today as one of the "10 Hardest Things to do in Sports." He has created the Michael Weiss Foundation, a non-profit organization created to provide skating scholarships to deserving youths. He is a coveted public speaker and the recipient of the 1999 "Father of the Year" as awarded by the National Fatherhood Initiative, is married with two children and has a long history of charitable involvement including Special Olympics and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Enhancements to the Alumni Association Directory
An upcoming enhancement to the Alumni Association Directory web page will be the addition of the name of Association President to the contact information for each active association. Alumni may click on the name of the Alumni Association Advisor or the Association President to send an email to request information about the association.

Associations Should Report New Officers
Alumni Associations who have
elected new officers should report those officers to the
Development Department at Headquarters. Send an email to to
request the proper reporting form for alumni officers and new alumni members.

MSRAA Assists
Regional Officer Academy and Honors Institute
The Middle States Regional Alumni Association recently assisted with the Middle States Region's Officer Academy and Honors Institute. The region had a record number in attendance: 150 members, over 20 advisors and more than half of the chapters in the region. MSRAA President Jay Park coordinated the preparation of a manual for each of the officers, and members of the alumni association presented workshops on Pinnacle, 5 Star, and Hallmark Awards.

Chi Delta
Chapter Honors Its Alumni
Chi Delta Chapter recently hosted an Alumni Appreciation Dinner to honor the members of its alumni association, Delta of Missouri. The theme of the event was "Shower Our Alumni With Love." Each Delta of Missouri member received a certificate of appreciation from Chi Delta Chapter, and Delta of Missouri was again honored for receiving the 2004 Outstanding Community-Based Alumni Association Award at the International Convention in Minneapolis in April.

Awards
During the 2004 Missouri Regional Convention, the Missouri Region Alumni Association was named the Distinguished Alumni Association, and Delta of Missouri was named runner-up. Rose Schulte, 2003-2004 Delta of Missouri President and Missouri Alumni Association Vice-President was named Distinguished Alumni Member for the Region, as was Jennifer Duchek, 2003-2004 Missouri Alumni Association Secretary/Treasurer.

Michigan Region
Recognizes Alumni
Timothy DeGryse, Alpha Nu Eta alumnus and Tammy L. Alvaro, Alpha Tau Alpha alumna, received Michigan Region Distinguished Alumni Awards at the region's fifteenth annual convention held May 21-23. Josh Dupuis, Xi Delta alumnus and Regional Alumni Representative for 2003-04, received a Michigan Region Coordinator Award for Distinguished Service to the Region. Sherry Springer, Advisor for the Michigan Region Alumni Association and Omicron Iota Chapter, received the Award for Distinguished Service to the Chapter and Region, and Abbie Root, President of the Michigan Region Alumni Association, received an award for Distinguished Service to the Region. During the Convention, new Alumni Association officers were elected and alumni assisted with the Flag Bearer ceremony and Regional Officer Candidate speeches. Alumni also served as judges for the performing and visual arts presentations and yearbook awards at the regional convention.

New Online
Leadership Lesson Focuses on Transformational Leadership
Leaders whose vision allows them to see beyond the status quo to discover new possibilities have transformed their spheres of interest and sometimes, the world. This week's Online Leadership Lesson focuses on transformational leaders and ways they have impacted the social, economic and political arenas. Online Leadership Lessons are posted twice monthly on the Phi Theta Kappa website. An archive of previous Leadership Lessons is accessible.
