Undergrad ACTION PLAN
Freshman:
- Join SDA
- Start volunteering: local hospital or clinics (UMC, Covenant), research opportunities (ask faculty members), community programs (Meal on Wheels, South Plains Food Bank, WIC program), nursing homes, TTU Fitness Wellness Center
- Consider doing this during the summer, if you are too busy during the academic year.
- Find an upper classmate mentor
- Network with other NS students and faculty
- Ask questions, visit them during office hours, so later they will know you when you ask for letters of recommendation
- Ask questions
Sophomore:
- Same as above, plus...
- Get involved with SDA (possibly become a committee member), and Fit Tech.
- Consider a host/hostess job at local hospital or any foodservice/dietetic-related job
- Aim for a high GPA (minimum overall 2.75)
- Apply to a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) DPD Application Form
Junior:
- Research internship directory: ADA Internship Directory
- Select 5-6 internship programs of interest
- Check our link to Scholarships for details on applications for ADA/TDA Scholarships.
- Become a Student Member of ADA: ADA student Membership Application
- Consider committee leadership role in SDA
Senior:
- Register for NS 4201- Professional Issues in Dietetics (fall)
- Decide on internships of interest
- Consider who may write letters/forms of recommendations for the application (at least 3)
- Recommendations may be from professors in Foodservice Management, Food Science or Nutrition/Clinical; and/or employers
- Practice interviewing skills
- Consider a leadership role with SDA
- Mentor freshman and sophomore NS students
