OUR HISTORY:

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) is a non-profit organization committed to the advancement of Hispanics in engineering and other related technical fields. SHPE was founded in Los Angeles, CA in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the City of Los Angeles. Their goal was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community. SHPE continues to expand at an aggressive pace and currently includes 6,000 members affiliated with 40 professional chapters and 147 student chapters in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Since then, SHPE has been dedicated to increasing Hispanic enrollment and retention in the College of Engineering. SHPE successfully supports Hispanic students working towards and engineering and science degree by providing academic and professional development opportunities.
