The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers has experienced tremendous growth at Texas Tech University. As I begin my first year as a member and now President of the organization, it is my great honor to be a part of this growth. The goals, initiatives and action items that SHPE at Texas Tech University have implemented have given us much of which to be proud. We are part of the big family at the College of Engineering in which a quarter of the Hispanic student population is member of. Our vision is to increase the participation of Hispanic students in the engineering world by providing them with the necessary tools for their success.
How can this happen? With leadership and diversity development. The opportunities that SHPE offers to its members are unique and invaluable. The future for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers is bright and fructiferous. However, this development lays on the responsibility of the executive board working as a team with a common goal. As President I am more than happy to count with the help of my officers and active members which help SHPE be one of the most active organizations on campus. I surely know that we can be part of the developing world we live in and that through the hard work we have been doing SHPE at Texas Tech can be a great asset for the College of Engineering. Together, I am confident we can fulfill SHPE’s mission to be The Source for Quality Hispanic Engineers and Technical Talent.
