Professor W.P. Dayawansa Memorial Six-a-side Cricket Tournament 2008

The Sri Lanka Student Association (SLSA) is proud to announce 4th, Professor W.P. Dayawansa memorial 6-a-side tennis-ball cricket tournament to be held on Saturday, October 4th 2008 at RCC cricket ground. The tournament aims at including International cricketing lovers and first time players alike in a battle of fun. Some of the cricket rules will be modified to make it more exciting and thrilling.

We look forward to meeting everyone who wants to have some fun!
 

Registration:

  • Teams can register online or sending an email to slsa.ttu@gmail.com on or before Thursday, October 2st 2008.

  • Tournament will be played in the 19th & Indiana Cricket grounds. Starting time will be announced later.

  • Up to 10 teams will be included in the tournament, and generally preference will be given to teams that apply first. SLSA reserve the right to make exceptions so that teams represented will cover a broader spectrum of the university community

Rules and regulations

·         All games will be played with heavy tennis ball

·         Each team contains 6 players

·         A player cannot play for more than one registered team

·         If it rains on the day of the event and the condition of the pitch does not allow for play, SLSA will try its best to re-schedule the tournament on a more convenient date. We will take into consideration a best time suitable for all, but do not guarantee that everyone's request will be satisfied

·         Organizing committee decision is final decision and it should be respected by all players.

·         SLSA is NOT liable in the event of any injuries sustained during the course of the tournament

·         We are operating under sever time constraints. Therefore it's highly likely that teams arriving late will be forced to forfeit their game

Bowling

·         In a 5 over match ONE bowler can bowl a maximum of 1 over each. 

·         No balls and wide balls fetch 2 runs each.

·         Note that dead balls are not counted as extra balls.

·         A ball is declared dead if it crosses the stumps bouncing at least twice with out any contact to any player or bat. If it hits the bat or the player after two bounces even then it will be treated as a dead ball.

Batting

·         NO LBW outs will be given and NO leg by runs are allowed

·         An inning will end when all 6 batsmen are dismissed. Last man will bat with a runner at the other end and will switch in the case of odd runs are being made.

·          Overthrows and byes are included as part of the score.

·         Waist high full-toss ball or a bouncer above shoulder height will be considered as a no ball. Note that in these cases the batsmen should be in the crease.

·         We will have markers to signify the boundary line.
If the ball is hit directly outside the ground the team gets 6 runs

·         One player can only play for one registered team. 

·         In all cases, the umpire’s decision will be final and any disputes will be resolved by the umpires in consultation with the Tournament Organizing Committee.

Results

·         If a game is tied at the end of both the innings, then the team that lost lesser number of wickets will win.

·         If the number of wickets lost is also the same, then the team that played less overs to score the runs will win.

·         After this, a coin toss will determine the winner.

Tournament format

·         Tournament format will be straight knock-out basis because the strong interest.

·         Depending on the number participating teams some teams may get byes in the first or second rounds.
