WHIFFLE BALL: Game Recaps

- 2003 SEASON -

Game 2: In a resumed game from last season, the SHS was able to score one run to take the lead 7-6 in the top of the third, but the Hecklers scored two in the bottom to pull out the win.

Game 3: Jeff Chase went yack off of WebmasterMP in the bottom of the 1st to seal the Tech Hecklers' third win versus the SHS.

Game 4: The SHS gained their first win in whiffle ball play, defeating the Tech Hecklers 5-2 in the first game of the double-header.  Garrett Luft made a full-out diving catch off of Jeff Chase's line drive shot to seal the victory.  Kevin Pierson pitched a complete game, while giving up only 2 runs in the 3 innings pitched.  Shishir helped the SHS present a signed ball to the Hecklers to commemorate their first win.

Game 5: The Hecklers run-ruled the SHS on a score of 14-2.  WebmasterMP gave up 11 runs in the first inning of play and proceeded to a three-up-three-down second inning.  He blames himself for this embarassing loss and vows to redeem himself in Game 6.

Game 6: With help from a couple of Aggies, the SHS busted the Hecklers 14-10*.  The * is because Chris Snead hit a 3-run HR ruled "fair" by George Watson, but was actually about 3 feet foul!  The 10 includes these 3 RBIs.    Kendall and webmasterMP combined in the pitching effort.  Many runners bit the dust running between 2nd and 3rd at the field for this game held outside of the Frazier.

Post-game:  "I vehemently object to the characterization of my homerun as a foul ball. It was declared a homerun by a just and impartial observer. I demand a full investigation and subsequent apology and that full honor and praise be given to my monstrous three-run jack off of Kendall."
- Chris Snead

"Thanks Chris, your complaint will assuredly be filed, but my hands are tied as far as changing the game write-up."
- webmasterMP

Game 7: In one of the closest games to date, the Hecklers battled to a 4-3 victory over the Students in Game 1 of a Saturday doubleheader, Kevin "Rocky" Pierson gave up an early 4 runs, but the Students made a big comeback that came up just two bases short in the bottom of the third. Mike Gustafson grabbed the win for the Hecklers.

Game 8: The SHS handed the Hecklers their 3rd loss this year 7-4, by scoring 3 runs in the top of the 3rd to seal the victory.  Every Student came up with a hit, and Webmaster MP overcame a rough fielding day by his infield to obtain his second win of the year. The doubleheader marks the second straight double-dip split between the teams.

Game 9: The Hecklers lost 4-2 Saturday, making two losses in a row to the SHS.  Chris Snead ended the game by striking out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  WebmasterMP put up 4 Ks in the complete game effort.  Billy Tiongco got two hits which totaled an estimated distance of about 10 feet for the Hecklers.  The key play of the game was an infield-fly-ruled pop-up hit by Kevin Pierson which was dropped - scoring all three student hecklers on base.

- 2004 SEASON -

Game 10: The SHS lost 9-7 Saturday, breaking their two game win-streak continuing from last season.  WebmasterMP (0-1) blames himself for the loss - striking out with two runners on to end both the 1st and 2nd innings.  He also allowed 7 runs in the monster, run-filled second inning.  The wind was a key factor in the game, helping W-MP to 5 Ks and Jason (1-0) of the Raider Mafia to 7 Ks.  The SHS is officially attributing the loss due to the fact that several returning veterans (Garrett, Mike Graham, Flux) reported late to training camp and were unable to play in today's game due to suspensions and violations of team rules.

Inn.   1-2-3  R
RM:  1-7-1  9
SHS: 0-5-2  7

Game 11: The SHS lost 9-4 in the first game Saturday.  WebmasterMP (0-3) blames himself again for the loss - allowing way too many runs.  His defense behind him was not all that stellar either.  Nick "the New" was impressive in his whiffle debut - getting several hits.

Game 12: The Raider Mafia handed the SHS their third straight loss (11-3) in the second game.  Mike Graham (0-0) came in relief to allow only 4 runs (some of which were unearned) in two innings.   The Raider Mafia looks forward to the awaiting challenge next week of the Hecklers as the SHS will try to get their first win of 2004 also vs. the Hecklers next week.

Game 13: The Hecklers got shutout 3-0 in the first game Saturday.  Jason (4-0) started out the first inning by striking out Chase and Snead; he also struck out Gus in the 2nd which is a feat in itself.

Game 14: The Hecklers got their first win of 2004 by defeating the SHS 6-1.  The key play of the game was WebmasterMP (0-4) giving up a two-out, 3-RBI grounder to Snead (who struck out twice in the first inning) which got by two SHS'ers.

Game 15: The SHS lost 8-0 to Raider Mafia, who now owns the SHS in whiffle ball.  Arnold (1-0) has a 0.000 ERA on the season after one relief apperance and this complete game shutout.  Rocky (0-1) was a last-minute addition to the SHS.  WebmasterMP was quoted as saying, "We just can't get it together this year.  I don't understand it - we were the 2003 champions, and now we can't win one game!"

He then went into Jim-Mora mode: "Ah, playoffs!!?  You want to talk about playoffs?  I just hope we can win a game!!"

Game 16:

In the first-ever extra inning game, the Hecklers defeated Raider Mafia 6-4 in 4 innings.

Jeff Chase pitched the Hecklers past the Raider Mafia to hand the RMs their first loss in their short history of whiffling at Segrist Grove. Chris Snead contributed two strikeouts with runners in scoring position and no outs as well as a crucial dropped fly ball. SHS gets 0.2 wins because Garrett Luft went 4-for-4 in aiding the Heckler victory.

Game 17:

In a last second effort, the Hecklers defeated the SHS 3-2 Saturday.

Jeff Chase threw some gas, recording countless strikeouts. The SHS was leading 2-1 in the bottom of the 3rd with 2 outs when Chris Snead reached base on an error.  After 2 succeeding hits, the Hecklers had come from behind to win their 2nd straight vs. the SHS.  Mike Graham said, "Well, it wasn't the pitching's fault - I gave up no earned runs."  Graham has done an excellent job thus far replacing webmasterMP as the staff's ace.

Game 18:

The SHS the pounded Raider Mafia 10-6 Saturday, breaking their winless streak this season.

WebmasterMP gave up two lead-off HRs, and was quickly replaced by Kevin Pearson.  The SHS scored 8 runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 10-3 lead, and ended up finishing off Raider Mafia 10-6.  The MVP was definitely Brian Place - robbed a HR (which saved 2 runs), had a total of 4 putouts in the outfield
- on offense: 3 runs scored, responsible for driving in 5 runs at least, batted 3/3

Inn.   1-2-3   R
SHS:  1-1-8  10
RM:   2-0-4   6

Game 19:

Raider Mafia quickly handed back to the SHS another loss in the 2nd game of the double header.  RM won 2-0 in the time-shortened 2 inning game.

Arnold pitched excellent, and had great movement on the ball all game.

Inn.   1-2   R
RM:  2-0   2
SHS: 0-0   0

Game 20:

Raider Mafia insulted the SHS 12-5 Saturday, by scoring 8 in the top of the 3rd to seal the win.

WebmasterMP robbed a HR away from Raider Mafia by jumping, catching, and landing on the curb, while maintaining balance.

Jason was masterful on the mound, shutting down the SHS when it mattered most in the bottom of the 3rd.

Inn.   1-2-3   R
 RM:  2-2-8   12
SHS: 4-1-0    5

Game 21:

The SHS rebounded to defeat Raider Mafia 13-8 in extra innings.  Mike Graham had a pair of HRs as well as the longest hit of the day (possibly ever) - down the left field line and the shortest hit (yes, even shorter than Billy's hits).

Arnold pitched excellent for Raider Mafia, but the SHS was just too much to handle.

Inn.   1-2-3-4   R
SHS:  5-1-2-5  13
RM:  2-1-5-0   8
