Problem |
Proposed Solutions |
| |
|
1.
No
representation specifically for
the couples and families of TTU.
|
1.
Use
TECH Couples & Families student organization
to lobby for the needs, concerns, and complaints of TTU couples and
families. Network with university and community resources to
gain support and build alliances. When necessary, use
political strategies (such as petitioning, campaigning, and
marching) to represent Tech's couples and families. |
| |
|
2.
No on-campus or off-campus
housing arrangements set aside
specifically for Tech's
couples and families.
|
2.
Begin collecting
housing petitions. Research
why we are the only Big 12 University without married or family
housing and publish this online at
XX
. Establish temporary off-campus arrangements that will
suffice until on-campus housing is affordable and available.
Involves long-term lobbying with Student Affairs department. |
| |
|
3.
Spouses and children of
Tech students, alumni, faculty,
and staff are not always treated
with equal respect or granted equal
access to campus resources. |
3.
Work with
each department of Texas Tech University to increase equal access to
campus resources. Lobby for benefits such as the following:
reduced athletic ticket prices, reduced membership fee to Rec.
Center, on-campus driving access so partners can pick up spouses
from school, access to libraries, access to spouse's private records
so as to help with paperwork. |
| |
|
4.
Couples and
families at
Texas Tech University sometimes
feel isolated and discriminated against.
|
4.
Get couples and families connected through programs like
Couple's Night Out
and
The JUNIOR Red Raider Club.
Initiate other programs that enable socializing, networking, and
resource-sharing. Establish and maintain a very visible,
active marketing campaign to remind couples, families, and the
student body that they have a safe place at TTU. |
| |
|
5.
Single students can benefit
from Tech's couples and families . . .
but we don't have an organized
program that enables this goal
to be
realized. |
5.
Establish
Adopt-A-Student program
in which students and local families can be matched and paired up to
the advantage and benefit of both parties. Nurture
relationships between TTU and the Lubbock community.
Single students will have a local family to go to for support and
socializing. |
