Renewable Energy

Mission & Goals

Our mission is to serve the Tech community as a source of information and encouragement in the implementation of sustainable forms of energy for our campuses.

Our goals are:

  • Learn about the various renewable forms of energy and disseminate this information to our administrators, faculty, staff and students.
  • Encourage Tech employees and students to become more independent in generating their own sources of energy through conservation and the use of renewable energy.
  • Work with utilities on the campus and in the community to create clean and renewable methods for generating energy.
  • Work with Tech administration to request state and local government to use clean forms of energy and to pass legislation which recognizes the importance of the environment in energy production.
  • Engage in the education of citizens and young people in the uses of solar, wind, geothermal and other forms of renewable energy.

About Us

Tech Renewable Energy Society (TRES), an official organization of Texas Tech University, promotes the use of sustainable sources of energy on campus and in the local community. Members are from Tech’s faculty, staff and student sectors, but membership by others is permitted under the by-laws.

TRES

Lubbock is ideally situated to take advantage of sun, wind and geothermal sources of power. Therefore our group’s primary focus is to encourage homeowners, architects, builders, researchers, administrators, and decision makers at all levels to tap into renewable energy. We motivate these groups by pointing out the economic and environmental benefits.

The Society meets once a month on the Lubbock campus to hear a presentation and discuss ideas of common interest. Most communications is handled through e-mail. If you would like to join the Society, or have questions about our group, e-mail tres@ttu.edu
