One of the things we take pride in is giving back to the community.  Each year we take part in different service projects at the local, state and national level.  If you would like to help participate or even plan an event come to our next meeting or contact our local president.

Yearly Projects

Other Planned Events

Local-
Halloween Carnival -

As a service to the children in the Lubbock community we host a carnival.  It is a fun-filled evening with tons of booths and activities.

Door Admission: two school supply items

This is a continuous program.  Please click on the link above to find out more about how to participate.

Back to School Fiesta!

In conjunction with Raiders Rojos and the College of Education, members assisted underprivileged elementary students in making Aztec Name Plates.  The event was created to encourage students to get excited about education, and begin thinking about college.

State-
School Supplies Drive -

Thank you to all who participated in our school supply drive.  The state association as a whole did extremely well in this endeavor.  The school supplies donated will be distributed out to schools all over the state who are in much need of school supplies.  If you still have some supplies you forgot to donate do not worry because it is never too late!  Bring any school supply items you have to the next meeting.   Everything school supply related from pencils to notebook paper, and everything in-between will be accepted.

Texas Independence Celebration

Happy Birthday dear Texas,...  Thank you to everyone who came to help with the Independence Day Celebration.  The Daughters of the Republic are very appreciated for all of the hard work and enthusiasm. \

Thoughts from a member:

" I am so glad that I participated!  It was a great opportunity be apart of something that made a difference in students lives."

National-
Read Across America -

Started in 1998 as a way to get kids excited about reading, NEA's Read Across America has become the nation's largest reading event. The year-round program culminates each year on or near Dr. Seuss's birthday. For more information check out http://www.nea.org/readacross/

Read Across America

Our read-in, at the Mahon Library, was another great success this year.  Students had a wonderful time reading and being read to.  Reading is a vital foundational skill, and it is important that we take time to celebrate reading and the authors that make it truly special for children.  Thank you for those who participated.
