Tech Struggles in One Win Series At Baylor After not having played in a month, Tech's bats were slow all weekend, resulting in a one win, two-loss series at Baylor in Waco. In a 9 inning game on Saturday night, Tech lost 4-2, despite a great pitching performance by Jacob Vise, who struck out 14 batters through 8 innings. Dustin Schurr had his breakout weekend with a home run to deep center field, followed by a spectacular one-handed play from third base. On Sunday Tech lost their first game 3-2, in a close game that lacked any offense from both teams. In the second game on Sunday, Tech's bats starting to come alive enough to get the win, 4-2. With the game tied 2-2 in the top of the 7th inning, Marco Meneses hit his first home run of the year to give Tech the lead at 3-2. On the next at bat, Trent Staggers hit a home run as well, giving Tech their first back-to-back homers of the year, and giving Tech a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the 7th. Matt McCary came in for the save after an excellent pitching job by Colton Short.
In the most intense game of the year, Tech came from behind and went on to win the first game of the series in the bottom of the 10th, 5-4. Jake Wyand picked up the win after steller pitching performances by Colton Short, Matt McCary, and Jacob Vise. Clutch hitting by Ian Graves and Ryan Fox helped score Chris Manross to keep us in the game. The Red Raiders went on to win the second game of the series, 13-3, with Aaron Hobratschk going 4-4 with an inside the park grand slam. The two wins move Tech onto a 6-0 undefeated record, and possibly a berth into the Top 20 Poll.
Tech Sweeps UNT in Denton Tech traveled to Denton to take on North Texas and walked away with wins of 14-5, and 12-4. Tech arguably had one of its best hitting performances with multiple hitters having career-like days. Jake Wyand went 7-10 with 4 2B's, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 5 runs scored, and a stolen base in the two game series, earning him the National Club Baseball Association's National Player of the Week. Tech pitchers Colton Short and Bryan Stubblefield picked up their second wins of the year, boasting 3.86 and 3.60 ERA's. Marco Meneses had his debut going 4-5 in the game while Chris Manross led the Raiders with 2 HR, with Ian Graves going yard as well.
Tech Defeats SMU in Spring Opener Tech beat SMU in it's first double-header of the year with wins of 12-1, and 2-1. Colton Short picked up his first win of the spring with a 12-1 win while striking out 8 batters and only giving up 2 hits. Bryan Stubblefield also picked up his first win as a Red Raider with 7 strikeouts. Jacob Vise entered the game in the 7th in a closing role and struck out the side in his debut. Our clutch hitter of the week goes to George Garcia, who hit a 2-run HR to help clinch the win in the second game. Tech will travel to Denton to play North Texas this next weekend. Congrats to Bryan Stubblefield and Trent Staggers for earning Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week.
