TOURNAMENTS
JANUARY 22: TCU TOURNAMENT : SIVA KICKOFF TOURNEY
Tech had a good tournament with wins over UTA, ETBU, and the open Team Quest. Tech came out of pool play ranked second with a record of 5-3. Tech was one of only two teams along with Texas A&M 1 to represent the SIVA conference in the top bracket of the tournament. The rest of the field included six open teams which had members that ranged from past SIVA collegiate teams, past NCAA players, and current AVP players.
To describe the competition the open teams brought to the tournament, only four other teams, six in all, of the 10 SIVA teams participating moved on to bracket play. Four of the teams were in the bottom bracket which included Texas A&M 2, TCU, Baylor and UT 1. I think Baylor ended up taking the title in the bottom bracket with a win over past players of the DBU team.
Tech was ranked 8th in the top bracket and had to take on top ranked 3rd Coast. The eventual victors of the tournament, 3rd Coast, proved too much for Tech who struggled all game with passing against the veteran team. Tech stayed close early but the veterans were able to pull away early in both games to put away Tech in a two game sweep. Tech's next tournament will open up SIVA play as the first official tournament of the season.
