Traditions
RHA is responsible for many events on campus. One of Tech's favorite traditions - Carol of Lights - is managed, funded and sponsored by RHA student leaders. Every semester, our officers are responsible for at least one individual program. Our Vice President of Programming in PR additionally plans one event per month with 15 or more class days.
To stay up to date with our events and programs, check out our OrgSync calendar or visit us on facebook or twitter.
Casino Night

To welcome students to campus, RHA hosts Casino Night during fall welcome week activities. Traditionally, the event takes place at the Student Recreation Center.
RHA provides for tournament and casual Black Jack and Poker in addition to Roulette, Craps and many more casino-style games. The night features give-aways, prizes and lots of fun! Don't worry - there's no risk of losing your own money! RHA provides chips according to an unlimited ticketing system. If you run out, you can always go get more.
This year's prizes included giveaways from local restaurants and stores. T-shirts, mugs, school supplies and vouchers for burritos, pizza and salon services were also featured in the giveaways.
Safe Treat
Every Halloween, Safe Treat allows families from around the Lubbock community to bring their children on campus for a safe and fun trick-or-treating environment. This event allows gives the Lubbock community an opportunity to see the spookier side of the Residence Halls in addition to giving our residents an excuse to decorate for the occasion.
While RHA sponsors free public transportation during the event and provides candy to all the residence halls, each complex council puts their individual spin on the festivities.
This year's Safe Treat featured the Boo Bus for families and kids, a Scooby-Doo short film screening, lots of candy, and themes to include: Pokémon, A Not-So-Spooky Halloween with Disney themes, box mazes, and much, much more!

Corn Maize

Every fall, RHA in partnership with Tech Activities Board (TAB) sponsors free busing and admission to the Lubbock Corn Maize.
The Maize has become a loved Tech tradition that allows students to have a little fun in the fields at At'l Do Farms. This year's acres-long maze was shaped like Buddy Holly. The farm also features a corn cannon, hay rides, hot cocoa and (of course) the maze!
Carol of Lights

To celebrate the holiday season Texas Tech holds an annual event called the Carol of Lights. The event starts off with the Texas Tech University Combined Choirs performing selections of classic holiday songs at the Science Quadrangle. When the lighting ceremony commences, Students as well as those who came for the show stand in awe as over 25,000 red, white, and orange lights illuminate the 13 buildings surrounding memorial circle.
This tradition started in 1959 when Harold Hinn came up with the idea and provided the funds to cover the science quadrangle and the administration building with lights. Unfortunately students were away on Christmas break and did not see the display. The next year the Residence Hall Association created the Christmas Sing, which is now known as the Carol of Lights. Today, the Carol of Lights is one of Texas Tech's favorite traditions.
The Drag Show

This year marks the third anniversary of Texas Tech's Drag Show. The event started as an opportunity for the Tech and Lubbock community to become acquainted with the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender (GLBT) community in a friendly, casual, fun and open environment. And the best part - everyone's invited!
The show features lipsyncing and dance numbers by local professional Drag Queens in addition to amateur performances by students and other members of the GLBT community.
2011's performances featured a student Justin Bieber lookalike and hostessing by Lubbock's favorite Queen emcee, Emology.
This year's Drag Show will be kicked off by a week of GLBT awareness activities to include movie screenings, acceptance and awareness activities and guest speakers. The week will be capped off by the annual drag show.
Events will take place from March 26-30, 2012. A more specific calendar will be available on OrgSync and facebook.

RaiderFest
RHA and the Tech Activities Board (TAB) have joined forces to bring you a bigger, better end-of-year event. We've taken our roots in One Big Crazy Weekend and matured them to bring you "RaiderFest!"
RaiderFest features live music, food, and carnival style games and festivities.
Complex councils graciously contribute to the event by providing additional funding and planning. The RaiderFest committee, made up by representatives from each complex, RHA executives and TAB executives, decide on the festivities. If you would like to know more about RaiderFest, attend your local Complex Council meeting to speak with your representative or contact RHA via our email.
