Red Raiders are Smiling Wide in Portales

After the dust clears on a cool fall night in New Mexico, the Texas Tech rodeo raiders are smiling as wide as Texas.
Jessica Frost, Senior Animal and Food Sciences major from Somis, CA, is winning first in the barrel racing with 25 more contestants to go in the first go round of competition.
Bailey Guthrie reining Southwest Region champion is winning first in the Goat tying with 20 more to go in the morning. Guthrie an occupational therapy major from Rigby, ID also is currently qualifying in 4th for the top ten short go in theĀ breakaway calf roping.
Josh Carden from Alabama is winning first in Steer wrestling with 12 more to go at the first of ten rodeos for the 2011-12 school year.
Petroleum Engineering major Klay Kirkes from Carlsbad, NM is currently placing third in the calf roping.
Taylor Langdon from Aubrey, TX, the reining Southwest Region champion, is currently fourth in the barrel racing.
Several more contestants will compete starting at 9am in the morning then the top ten in each event will compete for the weekend championship during the 7PM performance Saturday evening.
