Red Raiders “Like” Rodeo

The mens and womens rodeo team from Texas Tech both won the respective team championships for the week at the tenth and final National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association's Southwest Region rodeo competition hosted by Tarleton State University.

During the Tarleton hosted rodeo, Dalton Dewinnie, Freshman Civil Engineering, placed 4th in the finals and 7th overall in the calf roping.

In the breakaway roping, Kara Kohutek, Sophomore Ag Business major from Midland, Texas placed 1st in go round one, 5th in the finals, and 1st overall. In addition, teammate Kady Knox, Senior Business from Big Spring, Texas placed 3rd in the finals and 5th overall in the Breakaway event.

In Steer Wrestling, Josh Carden, Junior Ag Economics from Elberta, Alabama placed 1st in go one, 4th in the finals, and 3rd overall.

For Saddle Bronc Riding, Treyson Antonick, Freshman Animal and Food Sciences major from Henderson, Texas placed 6th in go round one, 1st in the finals, and 2nd overall.

In the Goat Tying event, Bailey Guthrie, Senior Exercise Sports Sciences major from Rigby, Idaho placed 1st in go round one, 1st in finals, and 1st overall.

For the Team Roping event, Beau Bradley, Freshman Animal and Food Sciences major from Dimmitt, Texas and Levin Porter, Junior Animal and Food Sciences major from Fort Stockton, Texas placed 8th.

In Barrel Racing, Taylor Langdon, from Aubrey, Texas and Radiology major, placed 4th in go round one, 2nd in the finals, and 1st overall. Teammates Carley Richardson, Junior Nursing major from Pampa, Texas placed 5th in go one, 1st in the finals, and 2nd overall along with Jessica Frost, Senior Animal and Food Sciences major from Soma, California placing 7th in go one, 3rd in finals, and 3rd overall in the Barrel Racing event.

Richard George, Senior Ag Economics major from Red Oak, Texas won the overall Bull Riding title at the Tarleton rodeo after winning the first go round.

Texas Tech's womens rodeo team where crowned the Southwest Region champions for the second year in a row and qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this June in Casper, Wyoming. The representing team will be Bailey Guthrie, Haley Nelson, Taylor Langdon, and Jessica Frost.

For the Mens team, Josh Carden advanced to the College National Finals Rodeo as well in the Steer Wrestling event.

Graduating this year are: Richard George, Bailey Guthrie, Jessica Frost, Haley Nelson, Kady Knox, and Kwail Brock.

The top two teams in each of the 11 NIRA regions and the top three individuals in each of the nine standard events (Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, Team Roping, Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Breakway Roping, Goat Tying, and Barrel Racing) from each region will compete at the College National Finals Rodeo, which is June 10-16, 2012 in Casper, Wyoming.
