Men's team wins first at Sul Ross State University

By Coach Chris Guay (9.28.09)

-Alpine, Texas

After the dust settled in Alpine late Saturday night, Texas Tech Men's Team rounded out the evening with the team championship. Of the 6 standard men's events, the men from Tech won two events and placed second in two other events, taking home 4th in yet another.

  • Freshman C.J. Kerr from Paradise tied for first in the finals and first overall in the steer wrestling. Kerr placed high at the year's first competition at ENMU making him the youngest freshman on the traveling team.
  • Adam Sawyer, Junior Agricultural Economics major from Nebraska, also placed in the "big man's event" tying for second placed in go round one and finishing 7th overall.
  • Luke Creasy, Junior Journalism major from Alberta, Canada, tied for 1st in the finals and won first overall in the bareback bronc riding.
  • Jay Manning, Senior Animal and Food Sciences major from Ingram, and Jeremy Buhler, Agricultural Leadership major from Levelland, placed first in the finals and second overall in the team roping.
  • Bonner Bolton, Senior Art major from Gardendale, placed second in the bull riding finals and second overall to assure his spot on the team this week in Perryton where Frank Phillips College and WTA&M will host the 16 schools in the region.
  • Logan Allen, Senior Agricultural Leadership major from Crescent , Iowa, placed 3rd in go round one and was 4th overall in the saddle bronc riding event.

Tech Women's Team coming off a first place finish at ENMU ended up 5th place at SRSU lead by Taylor Langdon who won 3rd in the finals and 4th overall in the barrel racing. Langdon, a freshman Animal and Food Sciences major, is from Aubrey.

Kallie Lamb, Junior Animal and Food Sciences major from Alberta, Canada, placed 3rd in the first go round, 5th in the finals, and 3rd overall in goat tying assuring her place on the team at the Perryton rodeo this week.

This is an extremely tough region, but we have some awesome competitors on both the men's and women's teams this year. I expect much success from each individual in their respective events and know we will be represented well at the College National Finals Rodeo next June.
