Lady Raiders Rodeo Team Maintains Lead

The Texas Tech Women Rodeo Team won reserve team champions at the Frank Phillips College / West Texas A&M hosted rodeo October 13-15. Weatherford College won the championship with sophomore Savannah Todd winning the all around women championship, placing in Barrel Racing, Goat Tying, and Breakaway Roping.
Bailey Guthrie Tech senior widened her lead in the Southwest regional goat tying standings by winning the goat tying championship at the Perryton rodeo. The Rigby, Idaho native placed first in the first go round with a time of 8.0, and first in the finals with a 7.8 to give the Exercise and Sport Science major the overall win. Guthrie is the reining Southwest regional goat tying champion.
Taylor Langdon, the reining Southwest regional champion barrel racer, won the overall championship in the barrel racing at Perryton. The Junior Radiology major from Aubrey, Texas placed third in go round one out of 135 contestants. In the finals, Langdon riding her good mare Frenchy, had the fastest time of the weekend 17.24 seconds to give her the short go win. The two good runs were the best aggregate time for two runs which gave her the win.
For the men's team, Josh Carden continues his winning streak in the steer wrestling event. The Junior Agricultural and Applied Economics major from Elberta, Alabama placed first in go round one with the fastest time of the rodeo, 4.4 seconds, Carden then tied for 4th in the finals with a time of 6.4 seconds to finish in a tie for second in the aggregate.
Richard George Senior Agricultural and Applied Economics major placed 6th in go round one of the bull riding. The Red Oak, Texas native placed second in the finals with a score of 75 which gave George a third place overall win in the most dangerous event in rodeo.
The Red Raiders will host 15 colleges and universities October 20-22 for the 62nd annual Texas Tech NIRA Rodeo.
See Frank Phillips Rodeo Results The Texas Tech Rodeo will be at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center's indoor arena. Thursday night is University night, where students with a current, valid Tech ID get in for $4.00. Tickets can be purchased at Dollar Western Wear or at Gebo's for $8.00 for the Thursday and Friday night performances and for $10 for the Saturday night performance.
