Creswell wins “All Around” at Texas Tech Rodeo

Lubbock, Texas-
The 60th annual Texas Tech University National Intercollegiate Rodeo concluded Saturday night October 17 with the Texas Tech Lady Raider Rodeo Team being crowned champions of the three day event.
Erica Creswell a senior Pre-Law student lead the team in points and came out victoriously as the women’s all around champion cowgirl out of over 200 female contestants in the 5th and final rodeo competition of the fall semester. Creswell a native of Weatherford, Oklahoma finished the first go round with a time of 2.1 seconds to finish first place out of 100 women in the breakaway calf roping. She also won the preliminary round in the goat tying event with a time of 8.2 to best the field of 65 entrants in that event. She won the women’s all around title and helped Texas Tech’s women’s team win the championship.
Other ladies placing include Taylor Langdon Aubrey, Texas freshman Animal and Food Sciences major finishing 3rd in the finals and 4th overall in the barrel racing.
The following girls placed in the goat tying:
- Kallie Lamb Animal and Food Sciences major from Alberta Canada 4th in go round one and 6th overall
- Ashley Davis senior Animal and Food Sciences major from Reform, Alabama third in go round one and 7th overall.
- Dani McGuire junior Agricultural and Applied Economics major from Gardendale, Texas placed 5th in go round one in the breakaway roping and 7th overall.

The men’s team won reserve champion team led by Luke Creasy. Creasy a senior English major from Alberta, Canada won the bareback bronc riding title after placing first in go round one with a 77 point ride on Maggie Mae, and Moulan Rouge took Creasy to a tie for first in the finals with a 78 point trip giving the regional leader the overall bareback riding championship.
- Logan Allen senior Agricultural Leadership major from Crescent, Iowa won second in the saddle bronc riding
- Junior Ryan Shanklin Agricultural Leadership major from Rocksprings, Texas placed second in the bull riding
- Adam Sawyer from Bassett, Nebraska placed 4th in the calf roping
- Chance Honey from La Junta, Colorado who majors in Agricultural Communications placed 4th in the Steer wrestling
- Clay Brown from Stephenville, Texas who is an Agricultural Business major and Matt Pemelton junior Petroleum Engineering major from McAllen placed 5th in the team roping finals.

Tech’s 60th annual NIRA rodeo was the 5th and final rodeo of the fall semester. At the end of the 5 rodeos designated during the spring semester, the top two teams will advance to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming next June. Tech Rodeo will compete again during the Spring term (starting about March).
