Lady Raiders Continue Winning Streak [in Snyder]

Texas Tech University's women's rodeo team had another stellar week at the 8th of ten Southwest Region National Intercollegiate regular season rodeos where, for the second straight week, they captured the women's team championship and have sewn up the Southwest Region team championship for the 2011-2012 school year! This week's events were hosted by Western Texas College in the Scurry County Coliseum.

- The Lady Raider rodeo team was lead by women's all-around cowgirl champion of the event Bailey Guthrie. The Senior Exercise and Sport Sciences major from Rigby, Idaho won 1st in both go rounds and the aggregate, or average, in the Goat Tying event. By placing 3rd also in go round one of the breakaway calf roping, Guthrie has moved into the lead in the Southwest Region all around standings and was crowned the champion all around for the week's competition in Snyder.
Guthrie can not be caught for her second consecutive regional championship in the Goat tying.

- Kirsten Stubbs has won her second straight Breakaway Calf Roping championship at Western Texas College. The Junior Agricultural and Applied Economics major from Eldorado, Texas came into the finals in 9th position but roped the fastest calf in 2.9 seconds, which not only gave her the first place finish in the finals, but the overall championship for the week.

- Cecily Crouch, Junior Nursing student from Midland, Texas placed 2nd overall in the Barrel Racing event after winning 2nd in go round one and placing 3rd in the finals.
- Taylor Langdon, Junior Radiology Technology major from Aubrey, Texas has maintained her 2nd place regional standing by placing 3rd in go round one of the barrel racing.
- Also in the barrel racing, team mate Jessica Frost, Senior Animal and Food Sciences major from Santa Barbara, California placed 6th in go round one. Frost placed 2nd in the finals and ended up 3rd overall, maintaining her third place standing in regional standings.

- Tech's Josh Carden placed 2nd in go round one of the Steer Wrestling event and finished 6th overall. The Junior Agricultural and Applied Economics major from Elberta, Alabama is seeking his first qualification to the College National Finals rodeo this June in Casper, Wyoming.
- Treyson Antonick Freshman Animal and Food Sciences Saddle Bronc rider from Henderson, Texas qualified for the finals in 7th place and rode very good in the finals but didn't place.

The mens and womens teams have Easter off, but will resume competition at the Howard College rodeo in Big Spring, Texas April 15-17 and will finish up the regular season at the Tarleton State University rodeo in Stephenville, Texas April 22-24.
The top two teams in each of the 11 NIRA regions and the top three individuals in each of the nine standard events (Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, Team Roping, Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Breakway Roping, Goat Tying, and Barrel Racing) will advance to the College National Finals Rodeo this June in Casper, Wyoming.
