Late Season Frost, A Good Thing

The West Texas winds could not detour the advent of Frost. This Frost happens to be Texas Tech's Jessica Frost, a Senior Animal and Food Sciences major who has risen to 2nd place in the Southwest region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.

The Santa Barbara, California native placed 1st in go round one out of 120 barrel racers with a blistering time of 16.04 seconds. Teammate Taylor Langdon, a Junior Radiology major from Aubrey, Texas tied for second with Howard College's Kaci Smith with times of 16.34 seconds. In the top ten finals, Frost ran the fastest time again with 16.38 seconds and Langdon a close 2nd with 16.39 seconds. Frost took the overall championship, and Langdon won 2nd overall.
Teammates Haley Nelson, Senior English major from Channing, Texas placed 6th in the finals and 6th overall and Kirsten Stubbs, Junior Agricultural and Applied Economics major from Eldorado, Texas finished in the top ten of the barrel race as well.

In the breakaway calf roping event, Carley Richardson placed 3rd in go round one, the Junior Animal and Food Sciences (nursing) major from Pampa, Texas placed 5th in the finals and finished 5th overall.
Teammate Bailey Guthrie placed 5th in go round one of the Breakaway and the Senior Exercise Sports Science major also won 1st in go round one of the Goat Tying, placed 4th in the finals, and finished 3rd overall.
Tech took the team win and Guthrie was the event's all around champion cowgirl.

Texas Tech's Mens team had three tie down calf ropers qualify for the finals.
- Garrett Hale of Snyder, Texas placed 1st in go round one, but the Sophomore Agricultural and Applied Economics major had one get up on him Saturday night, but still finished 7th overall.
- Klay Kirkes, Junior Petroleum Engineering major from Carlsbad, New Mexico placed 5th in the short go and finished 5th in average.
- Ross Tucker, Freshman Agricultural and Applied Economics major from Archer City, Texas finished 10th overall out of 85 ropers.

- In the classic event of rodeo, the Saddle Bronc riding, Freshman Treyson Antonick placed 5th in go round one, the Henderson, Texas native and Animal and Food Sciences major took 5th place in the finals and 4th overall.
- In the team roping event, Levin Porter, Junior Animal and Food Sciences major from Fort Stockton, Texas and partner Beau Bradley, Freshman Agricultural and Applied Economics major from Dimmitt, Texas placed 6th in the finals and finished 6th overall.
- Richard George, Senior Agricultural Business major from Red Oak, Texas rode his first bull to a score of 80 points to place 3rd in go round one and finished 4th overall.
The TTU Mens team finished 4th for the week out of the 15 schools competing.

The mens and womens teams will finish up the regular season at the Tarleton State University rodeo in Stephenville, Texas April 22-24.
The top two teams in each of the 11 NIRA regions and the top three individuals in each of the nine standard events (Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, Team Roping, Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Breakway Roping, Goat Tying, and Barrel Racing) will advance to the College National Finals Rodeo this June in Casper, Wyoming.
