Texas Tech Rodeo Team members volunteered at the National Ranching Heritage Center's Heritage Halloween on Friday,October 30, 2009. Heritage Halloweeen is an annual event where kids can safely trick-or-treat in the historical park of this ranching museum. Team members who volunteered are: Ashley Coker, Richard George, Tye Jones, CJ Kerr, Erica Creswell, Kallie Lamb, Jay Manning, Maggie Moore, Stetson Rasberry, and Adam Sawyer. As volunteers, the team members helped out with dummy roping, one of the activities during this event. Each of the historical stuctures on the trick-or-treating path had candy appropriate to the time period of the structure, such as Saltwater Taffy (1880s) at the Bairfield Schoolhouse (1893), Hershey's chocolate (1900) at the Box and Strip House (1907), and Super Bubble gum (1948) at the Pitchfork Ranch Cookhouse (1950s). According to an article by The Daily Toreador, Erica Creswell, who is the club's current president, stated, “I think the little kids really enjoy it, and they learn a little bit of history.” |
