October Stories
| Another Successful Texas Tech Rodeo |
Story by Coach Chris Guay
Sixteen colleges and universities competed in the rodeo that was held at the TTU Equestrian Center, hosted by the Texas Tech Rodeo Team. The Texas Tech women’s rodeo team won the championship with 355 points, with Vernon College placing second with 195 points. This marks the third straight intercollegiate rodeo championship that the women’s team has won! Tech’s team is lead by Brittany Bennett-Hofstetter from Portales, NM finishing first place in the barrel race on her horse Paco. Tiana Thornton from San Angelo finished third riding Miss Sunny, and Romany Gordon from Castle Rock, CO finished fifth place riding Ozzie. Kelsey Friskup from Muleshoe, TX finished fourth in the breakaway calf roping and Heather Turner from Cochrane, Alberta finished 4th in the goat tying.
The Texas Tech men’s team finished fourth overall. Stetson Vest won first in the finals and placed third overall in the calf roping. Jay Manning and Jake Brown placed in the team roping, with Jake Brown also placing in the calf roping. Jake Brown was barely surpassed for the all-around cowboy award, won by Jared Green of Eastern New Mexico University. The Texas Tech men’s team is currently fourth after the five rodeos they have attended this fall. Jake Brown is first in the heading, and Jay Manning is second in the region in the same event. Heather Turner is currently second in the goat tying. Congratulations to all the rodeo contestants!

| Texas Tech Rodeo is October 25-27, 2007 |
It's that time of year again, Fall, and that means Back to School, football, and Texas Tech Rodeo! This year the rodeo will once again be at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center. Ticketed performances will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Tech Football, playing Colorado, will also be playing that Saturday at 1 PM, so the game will not interfere with the rodeo. However, because of that home game, lodging will probably be slim if you don't plan ahead. Here is a list of potential places you can check. Please note, this list is for convenience only and these hotels and motels do not state any kind of sponsorship by being listed here!
