We the members of "Veteran's Association at Texas Tech," established to provide camaraderie with honor, commitment, and service, do ordain and establish this constitution and subscribe to the regulations and policies of Texas Tech University.
Section A The name of this organization shall be "Veteran's Association at Texas Tech," hereinafter referred to as "Veteran's Association."
Section A It shall be the purpose of the "Veteran's Association" to provide a sense of camaraderie for U.S. military veterans, those who are currently serving in the United States military, and those who support the U.S. military in any way, shape, or form.
Section B This organization promotes academic support, fellowship, and community volunteer opportunities. We are committed to providing Texas Tech Veterans with the tools necessary to succeed both socially and academically. This organization also aims to establish a leadership role on campus as well as in the community and uphold the honor and dignity of Texas Tech University.
Section A Membership is open to anyone enrolled or employed at TTU or TTUHSC.
Section B Full membership is defined as those individuals who have served in the United States Armed Forces or are currently serving in the Guard or Reserve. Ancillary membership is defined as those individuals who have not served in the Armed Forces, but still support the Armed Forces.
Section C Members and associate members (first semester members) shall be entitled to all privileges henceforth stated in this constitution.
Section D Active membership is defined as those who pay dues, attend at least two (2) meetings per semester, and want to be a part of a unique organization designed to build relationships on campus and in the community.
Section E The Executive Board will determine the amount of annual dues each year in the spring semester for the following fiscal year starting September 1 provided a quorum of the membership is present at that particular meeting.
Section F Only registered students of Texas Tech are allowed to vote. All members in good standing have the right to one (1) vote on all organizational business and the right to attend all organization social functions. The President may only vote in order to break a tie.
Section G Members wishing to withdraw from the organization must submit a written statement notifying the Executive Board of his or her decision and must require the approval of the chapter president. Members will be asked to resign with unanimous consent of the Executive Board with reasons being determined by the Executive Board and a majority of the membership. Resignation of officer positions will be confirmed by Executive Board approval.
Section H Expulsion of members or associate members will require 10% of the chapter vote and attendance of the President and Vice President at the expulsion meeting.
Section A The Veteran's Association shall have a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and a SOAC Representative. These officers comprise the Executive Board. The Veteran's Association will also have a Web Master, Community Service Contact, and Advisor if available.
Section B All officers must be full members of the Veteran's Association at Texas Tech. Officers may be re-elected into the same office.
Section C Election of officers shall be held on the second to last meeting in the spring before he or she takes office the following fall semester. The term of office shall be one full academic year. At least two weeks shall be given before the election meeting. Nominations shall be initiated from the floor and elections done by show of hands. The candidate receiving majority vote will be elected.
Section D Any officer may be removed by majority vote of the Executive Board. Any officer removed may appeal to the general membership. Said member shall be reinstated with 2/3 approval of the members.
Section E Any vacancy which may occur in any office shall be filled upon appointment by the President pending majority vote at the next group business meeting.
Section F The President
- The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer.
- The President shall oversee general business needs of the organization.
- The President shall appoint all committee chairpersons.
- Vacancies in offices will be filled by appointment of the President with approval of the general membership.
- The President will declare beginning and ending of the meetings.
- The President will be in charge of scheduling guest speakers for the meetings.
- The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President should the office become vacant, or in the absence of the President.
- The Vice President is in charge of organizing the recruitment of prospective members.
- The Vice President is in charge of planning formal and informal meetings.
- The Vice President will also assist in the scheduling of guest speakers for the meetings.
- The Vice President is in charge of maintaining all documents created for the purpose of the Veteran's Association.
- The Secretary shall create and maintain an updated roster of all active members.
- The Secretary will mail notice of meetings and check the P.O. Box weekly.
- The Secretary will call roll and take minutes at the meetings.
- The Treasurer shall account for all financial matters of the organization.
- The Treasurer will set up a bookkeeping system, keep track of all bank records, and balance the books.
- The Treasurer shall take over the duties of the Vice President in his/her absence.
- The SOAC (Student Organization Advisory Congress) Representative will handle all affairs of the organization during SOAC meetings.
Section A Meetings will be held 3 times per semester. Special meetings must be announced two weeks before the date of the meeting. A quorum will consist of 2/3 of active eligible voting members.
Section A This is a local organization based at Texas Tech University and does not have any national affiliations.
Section A Activities will include guest speakers, community service/projects, academic support for members, and any philanthropic ventures.
Section A Standing committees will be formed by the Executive Board as needed. The executive board will appoint all committee persons.
Section A The Advisor(s) must be a full-time Texas Tech University faculty or staff member. The advisor will be nominated and selected by the Executive Board providing majority member approval.
Section B Responsibilities of the faculty advisor(s).
- The faculty advisor(s) will aid and assist the organization with all matters concerning Texas Tech University policies and regulations.
- Reserve rooms on campus to conduct all organizational business.
- Assist in selecting topics to be discussed at each meeting and aid the Executive Board in selecting guest speakers.
- Advise the Executive Board on any questions or concerns on all organizational procedures, projects, services, and ventures.
- Meet with the Executive Board separately given a two week notice and attend at least two (2) meetings each semester.
Section A Meetings will be governed using Robert's Rules of Order.
Section A Amendments to the constitution will be adopted by a 2/3 chapter vote.
