Education
Dr. A.C. Corrêa did his undergraduate studies in Brazil, attended the Colorado School of Mines as a Fulbright Scholar for his M.Sc. Degree in Geology, and was awarded a Ph.D. Degree in Applied Earth Sciences from Stanford University. Before coming to Texas Tech University to serve as the Director of the International Center for Arid and Semiarid Land Studies (ICASALS), Dr. Corrêa worked in government, corporate, consulting, and academic organizations: he oversaw the geological research at the Brazilian Space Agency (INPE) in Sao Paulo, Brazil and he has worked in research and development and international oil exploration with major oil companies from the U.S. and Brazil. Dr. Corrêa started his career in academia at the Universidade Federal do Pará in Belem, Brazil and joined the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1997 as a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Program Director of the Center for Environmental Technology (CENTECH). Dr. Corrêa came to Texas Tech in 2004 as Director of ICASALS and Adjunct Professor in the Geology Department with the mission to re-establish ICASALS’ position in the international research community after two years of inactivity. Dr. Corrêa’s professional interests and expertise are in remote sensing technology, petroleum geology, environmental studies, and international development projects. He has international work experience in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Canada, Trinidad, Guinea Bissau, and Indonesia, with linguistic fluency in Portuguese and English and a working knowledge of Spanish and French. Furthermore, Dr. Corrêa is the author and co-author of scientific papers and symposia proceedings. He is a member of professional organizations such as AGU, AAPG, ASPRS, SBG, and he has been an Associate Editor of AAPG’s Environmental Geosciences since 1997. |
