Dr. Brad Dabbert's research focuses on the influence of environmental factors on the population dynamics of wildlife and includes both applied and theoretical approaches. Of particular interest is the effect of the environment on the immunocompetence of wild animals and their resistance to pathogens. He continues to investigate how environmental factors and habitat management practices influence avian survival and reproduction: his current research explores environmental variables that might modulate game bird population size, such as thermal stress, nutrient deficiency, and exposure to toxicants and invasive organisms.
Dr. Dabbert uses a variety of teaching methods and strives to provide his students with thorough, up-to-date information. He believes that the laboratory sessions should be designed to reinforce lectures by providing students with the opportunity to observation and have hands-on experience, which just help to cement the concepts discussed during course lectures. Dr. Dabbert is a member of the The Wildlife Society and the Texas Quail Council (an advisory board to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department). He has served on the College of Agriculture's Marketing Task Force, College Recruitment and Retention Committee, College Agricultural Awareness Committee, and departmental Graduate Student Admissions Committee.
