Dr. Ernest Fish's professional experience has been teaching and research in the areas of natural resource management, remote sensing, and quantitative ecology. He is involved in interdisciplinary research programs encompassing environmental inventories, geographic information systems, land use analysis, and land management planning in the southwestern region of the United States. Ongoing research projects include examining the landscape of the recolonizing black bear population in the trans-Pecos region of Texas and investigating the distribution of Swift Foxes in Texas. Previous research has invested the water quality of playa lakes, applications of GIS in water resources research, playa wetlands' ecology, and the detection of Saltcedar in West Texas.

Dr. Fish is a member of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, the Society for Range Management, the Society of American Foresters, and the Association of University Watershed Scientists. He was the recipient of the Texas Tech University President's Excellence in Teaching Award and was inducted into the Texas Tech University Teaching Academy.

Courses Taught
Watershed Planning, Aerial Photo Interpretation in Natural Resource Management, and Aerial Terrain Analysis
