Dr. Bill Lawson's research interests focus on geotechnical, pavement, and material engineering and roadway planning and traffic engineering. Dr. Lawson is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, ASFE: The Best People on Earth, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics, and
Chi Epsilon. In 2006, Dr. Lawson received a National Science Foundation grant to study "Ethics Instruction for International Graduate Students in Engineering." He has been awarded Recognition for Outstanding Teaching from the, College of Engineering (2005), Best Paper Award from ASCE Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice (2003-2004), and the Top Research Innovation award from the Texas Department of Transportation Research & Technology Implementation (2003). He is the advisor for the Texas Tech Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, whose purpose is to familiarize engineering students with the Industry.
